Kelley & Matt Maternity Session

Kelley & Matt asked us to do a maternity session with them a couple months back. We actually had it scheduled for the beginning of February….but then we had that little blizzard, and had to reschedule. Thankfully we got back from our Canada trip in time to get the session in before Kelley had the baby. Of course they wanted their dog Gina to be in the pics as she’s a big part of their lives.

We had a beautiful Saturday morning with them in their home and exploring Lancaster city. They weren’t looking for the typical maternity shots that are so popular right now, so we went casual and just had a fun morning hanging out with friends. It was fun capturing them as a couple, so happy to be first time parents! And of course we got to see Gina’s personality throughout the shoot. Congrats Kelley & Matt!

Top ten reason why you should buy a mac

So I get asked questions about mac’s all the time. All my friends and family come to me to ask questions like, ‘I’m looking for a laptop, think I should get a mac?’ or any other mac/apple related questions. In fact my nephew started calling me “Uncle Mac” (only because he can’t quite pronounce Matt yet, totally hilarious though). I usually answer these types of questions with another question, like’ Is the pop catholic?’ or ‘would you rather a headache or a neck massage?’. Of course you should buy a mac! After which I spend a good half hour spouting off reasons to defend my bold opinions. So in no particular order here are my top ten reasons to buy a mac.

1. Because PC’s suck. Yep all of them, haven’t seen one yet that even comes close to a mac. Buy a mac simply because the competition is so bad.

2. Because you don’t have time for viruses. I’ve been on a mac now for 6 yrs, I’ve never run anti virus software and… you guessed it I’ve never had a virus!

3. Buy a mac for the things you don’t get with it. PC’s come with a ton of useless software and trail versions of everything under the sun. If you want to have a clean start you need a few solid hrs just to get rid of all the junk. Most people don’t even bother so they end up with a brand new cluttered machine right from day one. Mac’s come loaded with useful software to manage your digital lifestyle. Edit your photos, make videos and websites easily, record music and whole list of other things with the software that comes pre-installed. It all works right out of box.

4. Because Macs are sexy, and if you have one then you are too. Take a look at the new macbooks and how they use a unibody construction, brilliant!

5. The dock. All your programs are easily accessible from the dock which hides neatly off screen. It only appears when you mouse your way down to it and it disappears as soon as you move away. Here is a great PC question, why do you have to go to the start menu to turn the thing off?

6. Buy a mac because they make so much sense. Ok the last part of the number 5 inspired this reason. But seriously macs are intuitive and do a lot of little things right. One that I like is when you’re downloading a file you’re given a time estimate like, about a minute to go. Not a countdown to zero and then a 30 second wait. Come on PC, if you don’t know how long it’s gonna take, tell us the truth.

7. Buy a mac because of the display quality. Weather you get a macbook or a iMac, just walk in to an apple store and have a look. Words can’t describe how nice and bright the displays are.

8. Because no one likes a crash. There is a lot of debate about this one on the web. All I can say is I often run graphics intensive programs at the same time. I probably have about 15 applications running at once on some days. I don’t ever have crashes. No wait I did have one last year, while running Microsoft Office… no comment.

9. Buy a mac because your iPhone will love it. If you don’t have an iPhone yet, I totally understand, you must hate AT&T so much that you’re waiting for another carrier. If that’s not the case, go get an iPhone for a thousand reasons I don’t have time to post about.

10. Buy a mac because I have stock in Apple. Just kidding… although I wish I did.

Larissa & Carl Wedding

My little sis got married this weekend! I’m (Nat) originally from western Canada, so we made the trip out there for her wedding. I was matron of honor, so Matt was shooting without me for this event. It was a beautiful, ‘warm’ day in Northern Alberta. Larissa & Carl put a lot of work into the details of the day, so it was fun to help them capture those details and moments throughout the wedding.

The girls got ready at Brookshire Manor, a beautiful bed and breakfast, just outside of the city. Then it was off to St. Joe’s Catholic Church for the ceremony. The church was just built a couple of years ago & is a beautiful setting for a noon wedding, lots of natural light. Canadian weddings are typically a bit longer than American weddings, so we had all afternoon to get shots of the wedding party & the couple. Since it was only Matt taking the pics this time, he appreciated the extra hours and was able to get some really fun shots in a few different locations. We even had a bit of a break & a drink at Better Than Fred’s, thanks John.

Then it was off to the reception. The Sexsmith Civic Centre was decorated beautifully and the evening was a huge hit. Carl had a couple of his friends prepare a delicious meal, that was complimented with homemade sourdough bread by Loaves. The party didn’t stop until well after midnight! Congrats sis & bro in law! We love you guys and we’re so honored we got to be a part of your day.

We have had so much fun with our Engagement Sessions this year. It’s such a great way to get to know our couples and see their personalities. The tragedy in Haiti is hard to put into words. We have so much to be thankful here in the United States. We’re asking anyone who follows our blog to consider donating to the relief effort. Our economy isn’t at it’s best but I can’t think of anyone I know who can not afford to give a few dollars.

2009 was an exciting year for us, we had some amazing weddings and e-sessions. Our next few posts will be dedicated to the “best of 2009″. We’ll be picking some of our favorite pictures that we think capture our unique style.

Perfect Ending to the Perfect Day

The 2 foot difference

So I (Matt) have always wanted a big Christmas tree. I always told myself, “self, if I ever have a room big enough I’m going to get a huge Christmas tree.” I’m not info fake trees at all, I like the look, smell and feel of real trees. I don’t mind dealing with the sap and needles. This year Nat & I decided to put our Christmas tree in our studio and decorate it in Black,White and Silver to match our brand. So Nat and I went to the tree farm and searched and searched till we found the perfect 12′ fir to fit in our 14′ cathedral ceiling studio. I roped the tree to the top of our friend Shannon’s land yacht in typical red neck fashion. The guy at the farm didn’t want to let us leave he was so worried it would fall off. But we left and got it home without worry. Nat and I heaved it into place, stood it up only to have one minor problem, it didn’t fit, the top hit the ceiling! Turns out our ceilings are only 12′ high and our tree was actually 13′ not the 12′ we paid for. So a little creative trimming was done and we have what you see below. It’s way more tree than I ever though it would be. Turns out trees look much smaller outside in a field than they do indoors. But we love it! All of that to say,
